Five things to include in your holiday in Mauritius itinerary

When someone mentions a holiday to Mauritius, white sand beaches and tropical blue waters instantly come to mind. The Indian Ocean destination is a luxury spot for holiday makers who are after a relaxing haven. If you are wondering what to do in Mauritius, the island isn’t all about beaches and there are some must-sees you’ll love to visit whilst on holiday. Holiday Genie has teamed up with Air France to give you the top five things to include in your Mauritius itinerary.

Scuba Diving and Snorkelling

Depending on your skill level, snorkelling and scuba diving in Mauritius is a must. The island has 330 kilometres of coastline to enjoy which includes a barrier reef, caverns and coral arches. The Lagoon is a calm area to snorkel surrounded by a coral reef and colourful fish. It is one of the best spots on the island to snorkel. Experienced snorkelers and divers should head to Colorado and Roche Zozo outside of the blue bay where more adventure and deeper waters can be found.

La Vanille Nature Park

If you need a day off from relaxing on a beach, La Vanille Nature Park makes for a great day out. The luscious tropical surroundings offer an unforgettable experience where you can walk amongst giant Aldabra tortoises. The nature park is home to over 1000 tortoises as well as 2000 Nile Crocodiles, in addition to other wildlife including monkeys and iguanas. This is great to add to your Mauritius holiday itinerary, especially if you are travelling with a young family.

Charmarel Waterfall

This waterfall plunging over 95m in a single drop is a beautiful sight to see whilst holidaying on the island. It offers a scenic backdrop of forests and mountains and makes for a perfect picture of Mauritius. The waterfall can be viewed from the Black River National Park or for a closer encounter; tourists can see the waterfall from the upper deck at the Chamarel Seven Colored Earth Reserve. If you fancy a swim at the bottom of the waterfall, you can head down a trail and do so.

Black River Gorges National Park

Black River Gorges National Park is Mauritius’ biggest National Park. Hike through hills and explore the thick forest and wildlife. A day trip to the park will have you discovering over 300 species of plants, over nine species of common birds and more than 4000 fruit bats. Wildlife which you are more than likely to stumble uponincludes wild boar, monkeys and deer.

Le Morne Beach

Mauritius is home to beautiful stretches of white sand beaches. La Morne Beach is an attractive and tranquil place to relax with nothing but peace here. If you are after more of an adventure, the waters and winds here make it a perfect place for kite surfing and windsurfing. The nearby village of La Gaulette will have equipment and courses you will require to do this. Stay till the evening and capture a breathtaking view of the sunset.
