flowering shrubs, including a 20 ha (50 acre) arboretum of more than 10,000 trees.

Under British rule, the royal park became a botanical garden in 1821 and is the largest of Sri Lanka’s three main botanical gardens. Here exotic crops such as coffee, tea, nutmeg, rubber and cinchona (quinine) – all of which later became important to Sri Lanka’s economy – were tested. Sights include a palm avenue planted by the British in 1905. Another British import was the enormous spreading Java fig, which sprawls across the lawn, grown from a sapling brought from East Indies. The garden also have stands of towering bamboos from Burma, Japan, China, and the East Indies, and a fine collection of orchids from Sri Lanka and further a field In the center of the gardens is an artificial lake in the shape of the island of Sri Lanka, beside which a white- domed rotunda commemorates George Gardner, superintendent of the gardens in the mid 19th century.

DAY 06
Early morning leave for a day long excursion to the following places of interest.

Mulgirigalla Rock Temple - " The summit of the Rock " :- was confusingly known as adam's berg or Adam's Peak until the 18th
century. The Portuguese, infamous for their destruction of Buddhist sites, misunderstood the monks who explained that the frescoes were of the " first man " . Rather than Buddha, they decided that these were images of Adam and left the cave temples untouched. In the 17th century a Dutch general misled some visiting persians who hadlanded in Matara asking to be taken to Adam's Peak. Having no intention of marching 160km (100miles) through difficult territory, he led them on a roundabout route from matara to Mulgirigalla dragging the journey out for six days.

Probably founded in the 1st Century BC, this 105-metre (350ft) rock temple is smaller than Sigiriya but rises almost vertically out
of the surrounding forest. With well preserved and beautifully painted cave temples carved into five levels, the rock was also th
site of an important Discovery; the ola-leaf scripts discovered here in the 19th century were the key to the translation of Sri lanka's most informative ancient text, the Mahavamsa. It is also the
site of a Buddhist graveyard, a rarity enforced on the monks by the British who disapproved of cremation.

On completion proceed to visit the Blowhole in Dickwella The “Hummanaya” or Blowhole:-
It’s a natural fountain, caused when sea water rushes through a submerged cavern and is pushed upwards. The spray is often as high as 25 meters, giving onlookers a sea bath on land Return to the hotel for an early dinner before setting off to see the Rakawa Turtle sanctuary where members of the turtle conservation project would conduct a short briefing of the conservation project before taking you to the protected beaches to witness Turtles laying their eggs. Although chances are fare in spotting Turtles through out the year the season is usually between January and April of each year.

Return to the hotel to retire for the night Dinner & overnight at Dickwella Village, Dickwella (Standard room on Half board basis)
DAY 07
After breakfast, set off to your beach hotel, stopping enroute at the historic city and UNESCO world heritage city of Galle.
This is southern Sri Lanka’s most important town, and though planted squarely on the beach circuit it derives its apotheosis from reasons other than golden stretches of sand. It is famous for its Old Dutch fort and ramparts.
