New York is the perfect long weekend destination and a popular choice for dedicated shoppers. This city is unmistakably one of the most elaborate locations for the January Sales shopping experience. New York City has some great shopping in January when many stores lower prices for their post-holiday sales. If you’ve never been shopping in New York City’s famous higher end department stores, January is a great time to check them out.

Because tourism drops off after the Christmas holidays, this is a great time to find accommodation and flights - January is a great time for bargain hunters who don't mind the cold.

Many airlines fly direct from London Heathrow, with an indirect service from Manchester. Fifth Avenue is where you’ll find the high end department stores including Saks. Other well known stores here include the Apple store, Tiffany and Abercrombie & Fitch. No visit to New York would be complete without a visit to Macy’s, the world’s largest department store. Another famous department store is Bloomingdales, located on the Upper East Side and is known for their huge inventory of the latest designer fashions in NYC, as well as the "little brown bag" that is its trademark. As well as shopping, why not take time out to ice-skate at the Rockefeller (featured in *Home Alone 2*), marvel at the view from the top of the Empire state building (featured in *Sleepless in Seattle*) or take a horse and carriage through Central Park (seen on *Sex and the City*) Once you have worked up an appetite, don’t not forget the incredible eateries around the city such as New York style pizzas, Katz’s deli or Shake city (the best burgers in town!)
